During what would have been 2020’s Unconformity festival, Lou Conboy curated a group show consisting of works made by the past years Q-Bank artists in residence. Several of the artists involved were kind enough to sit down with Emmalie in the gallery’s bedroom to chat about themselves and their work. This is what we’re calling our ‘frankenstein episode’ or ‘Local Live’. Emmalie and the artists started recording prior to the exhibition opening, but continued on throughout the show, so there will be some background noise as the episode progresses.
Visual Arts,Places & Travel
‘Local’ is a podcast consisting of conversations with artists living on the Tasmanian West Coast, predominantly Queenstown, and artists’ in residence through both Q-Bank and The Unconformity. The primary focus of the podcast is to examine the role place has in the artists’ work and how it influences their practice. The podcast is a new and valuable narrative and voice emanating from the West Coast. Given that the West Coast is made up of a number of small communities connecting with audiences is extremely relevant here. The discussions critically explore the nature of art making in a provocative wilderness and industrial setting, humanising the experience of living and/or working ‘on the fringe’.
